The Helen Woodward Animal Center Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon takes place Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 8am to 2pm PT. Event organizers are reporting they plan to secure two world records this year. The world is invited to watch live via Google Plus Hangout.

Laura Lewis, communications manager for Iams, revealed, “Iams strives to improve the lives of orphaned pets, so we’re especially proud to partner with Helen Woodward Animal Center to sponsor an exciting and important event as the Surf-Dog-A-Thon, which brings together all types of dogs to raise awareness for homeless animals. We’re also excited to cheer on our very own VP of Canine Communications – Pawl Griffin – competing for top dog honors.”

Each “hang twenty” surf heat is judged by top riders from Volcom, along with other surfing aficionados including celebrity judges Michael Munoz from CBS’ Amazing Race; retired pro surfer and actor Kalani Robb from Blue Crush and Forgetting Sarah Marshall; and TransWorld SURF Editor-in-Chief Chris Cote.
