Petsmart’s distribution center in McCarren, Nev. received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver Certification from U.S. Green Building Council. LEED provides building owners and operators a framework for identifying and implementing eco-friendly building design, construction, operations and maintenance systems.
“Silver LEED Certifaction for Petsmart’s Nevada distribution center is a significant achievement for the entire company in our commitment not only to sustainability, but to the local community, says Suzanne Lindsay, Petsmart director for environmental sustainabilitiy, “For example, local water conservation efforts are a priority in the region and are now supported by our innovative fish water recycling system.”

Petsmart’s distribution center has a white reflective roof, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, occupancy sensors, and a fish water recycling system. The system involved the construction of an underground 10,000-gallon repository that recirculates the fish water and reduces water use by 90 percent.
