The Pet Industry's Leading Resource for News & Content Distribution

SEATTLE (October 9, 2013) – To celebrate October’s National Adopt a Dog Month, Project Blue Collar, a company devoted to improving the perception of shelter dogs and encouraging adoption as the first option, and PetHub, the world’s most comprehensive online lost pet recovery service, announced their joint, “Never Lost Again Pin to Win” contest on Monday. Through the Pinterest-based contest, users will celebrate their adopted furry family members with pictures, stories and tips about adopting shelter and rescues pets and be eligible to win one of eleven great prizes.

Project Blue Collar’s mission is to elevate the status of rescue dogs so they are recognized as wonderful pets and companions. Millions of dogs are put down in shelters each year due to low adoption rates and the high volume of breeders and puppy mills exploiting dogs for profit.

“So many dogs end up at the shelter because they have been abandoned, surrendered or lost,” said Carole Feeny, president and co-founder of Project Blue Collar. “Once they are adopted and tagged with a PetHub/Project Blue Collar ID they’ll never be lost again. We thought this contest was the perfect way to celebrate Adopt a Dog month and help educate folks about how wonderful shelter pets can be.”

To enter the contest, pet parents create a Pinterest “Never Lost Again” board and post pictures of their rescued or adopted shelter pet, along with links to articles, events and tips about pet adoption and safety.  Once their board is created, they will then need to officially enter their board at PetHub.com/NeverLostAgain by October 25, 2013.

“We are strong proponents of adoption and proud to be a part of the Project Blue Collar movement,” said Lorien Clemens, PetHub’s Director of Marketing. “There are misconceptions associated with rescue dogs, and we hope this contest can play a big part in dispelling these myths.”

In addition to PetHub’s award winning ID and protection services, the grand prize winner will receive Project Blue Collar’s signature Support the Underdog® Blue Collar and other PBC gear, as well as a $100 Petco gift card. The entire grand prize package, which is worth over $250, will be awarded on October 28, 2013.

“We are looking forward to the Never Lost Again contest to drive the conversation about adopted pets and help build the movement,” said Kristin Waters, vice president and co-founder of Project Blue Collar. “Telling the story of your adopted dog inspires others to help, and encourages them to adopt, not shop, when adding a pet to the family.”
