Volunteers are being sought from Petco and the Petco Foundation to help collection pet food for pets in need as part of the third annual National Pet Food Drive. The drive launches on October 28 and runs through November 11, 2012.

Registration can be done online to volunteer at any Petco location, including the Unleashed by Petco locations. Petco has partnered with VolunteerMatch, touted as the nation’s largest network database of volunteer opportunities. Best Friends Animal Society will be supporting the national food drive once again by mobilizing its nationwide network of volunteers to register for the event and help drive awareness of the program.

Paul Jolly, the Executive Director of the Petco Foundation, stated, “Petco and the Petco Foundation have collected and donated more than 1.5 million pounds of pet food and litter to families in need since the national food bank program began in 2010, and our volunteers are a big part of the program’s success in keeping pets well-nourished and with the families who love them despite tough economic times.”

Interested parties who wish to volunteer can do so on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the pet food drive (Oct. 28 and Nov. 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11). To register as a food drive volunteer, visit and select “Petco Foundation Pet Food Drive.” Registrants can pick a Petco store location and time. Each volunteer will get a $5 off Petco coupon as well as the opportunity to win a $500 Petco shopping spree for their favorite food bank provided by the Petco Foundation.
