Natural Balance Pet Food has been awarded the Pet Product News International 2011 Editors’ Choice Award for its ALPHA Dog & Cat Formulas. With more than 300 products received by the publication for review in 2011, the winning products were judged on innovation, design, and function.
The ALPHA line of foods is a grain-free blend of proteins and fruits and vegetables designed by Natural Balance Pet Foods with balance in mind. By combining novel ingredients such as garbanzo beans, prebiotics, and sweet potatoes, the dry food collection is touted as scientifically formulated. It was first introduced in January of 2011.
Heather Govea, Senior Vice President of Independent Sales & Corporate Marketing at Natural Balance shared, “Combining multiple proteins, including fiber-rich garbanzo beans, with fruits and vegetables like zucchini and blueberries for dogs and pumpkin and garden greens for cats, make ALPHA different from anything else on the market.”
In their November issue, Pet Product News International reported, “ALPHA Dog and Cat Formulas were paws-down winners; we couldn’t find a single dog or cat that didn’t like them…And our human reviewers appreciated that the first ingredient in every formula was real meat.”
Natural Balance was founded by Dick Van Patten and Joey Herrick in 1989 and is based in Pacoima, California. The company offers more than 50 dog and cat food varieties and their product catalog includes several Zoological Formulas fed to carnivores, birds of prey, and reptile populations in zoos and animal reserves across the United States.
Sheri L. Collins, editor of Pet Product News International, stated, “Our experienced editorial team was faced with the difficult task of deciding which products out of the amazing array were truly exceptional. Forty dedicated evaluators, along with their pets, put the products through rigorous testing prior to the final vote.”
