Halo Pets, Ellen Degeneres’ pet food company, in conjunction with FreeKibble.com will embark on their first-ever “Koast-to-Koast Kibble Drop” to help deliver 400,000 meals of Halo’s Spot’s Stew to shelters and rescues up and down both east and west coasts this holiday season.
Two trucks, each loaded with 20 tons of food, will make one dozen stops from December 13 through December 22, 2001 to over 40 shelters and rescues nationwide. Area recipients at each stop will meet the truck in order to pick up their shelter’s donation of Halo Spot’s Stew dog and cat food.
Degeneres, co-owner of Halo, reflected on the event, stating, “Helping animals has always been a passion of mine. At Halo we want to promote healthy living for pets and eating good food is a big part of that. I mean, imagine, an animal in a shelter, in a cage, lonely – a good meal is kinda’ all they have to look forward to, until you adopt them!”
Freekibble.com has donated over 6.6 million meals to pets in need since its formation in 2008. Visitors to the Freekibble.com and FreeKibbleKat.com websites answer questions and earn 10 pieces of kibble for homeless pets as a result. Halo has been FreeKibble.com’s official pet food sponsor since 2010.
Founder of FreeKibble.com is 15-year-old Mimi Ausland, who formed the cause at the age of 11. In an official statement, the teenager reported, “I am so excited that we’re delivering two full truckloads of kibble to thousands of homeless dogs and cats this holiday season. It’s extra special because it’s not just any kibble, but it’s healthy, nutritious and delicious! I know it will make their holidays a bit warmer and more special.”
Shelters selected to receive the donations came from submissions sent in to FreeKibble.com. A portion of the freight costs will be donated by C.H. Robinson.
