ESCONDIDO, Calif. (March 27, 2015) — Rami, the peculiar looking, headline-grabbing Pit Bull/Dachshund mix brought to the Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society (MCCHS) in Moultrie, GA earlier this year is now training to be a certified therapy dog and ambassador for shelter dogs with Bark Busters Home Dog Training.

Thousands of adoption applications poured in to the MCCHS, but due to Rami’s vast exposure and people-loving nature, it was decided that he could represent countless homeless animals by serving as an ambassador for shelter dogs everywhere.

Dawn Blanton, Board President from MCCHS said, “We hand-picked Master Dog Behavioral Therapist and Trainer Leigh Ann Falconer of Bark Busters Home Dog Training in Thomasville, GA to work with Rami and get him the education he needs to fulfill his role as ambassador, as well as obtain his therapy dog certification. Rami will remain here at the MCCHS, where he will have a special suite and will go home at night and on the weekends.”

“Rami is a beautiful dog – his look and his story make him appealing, but it is also important that he learns good behavior so he can help spread the message about the joy shelter dogs can bring,” said Falconer. “I’ll work with Rami to teach him to be an obedient, well-behaved dog, and also educate his caretakers to help them understand him and do everything necessary to ensure they have a long, happy life together.”

Bark Busters’ training will prepare Rami to visit children in schools and hospitals and the elderly in nursing homes, as studies indicate that certified therapy dogs help people physically, emotionally and socially.

Developed in Australia, Bark Busters’ simple, natural and dog-friendly training methods focus on developing a positive relationship between handler and dog to establish a lasting emotional bond based on respect and trust. Falconer will teach Rami to reliably respond to basic commands and to exhibit calmness and confidence in any environment – while allowing his fun-loving personality to shine through – so he can pursue his mission to demonstrate how shelter dogs can bring joy to those who need it.

Rami’s progress and his work as Shelter Dog Ambassador and Certified Therapy Dog can be followed on the Rami Facebook Page, The Bark Busters’ Facebook Page, and The Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society Facebook Page.
