National Geographic WILD and “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan have agreed to host a debate called “Serious, Classy Republican” with Stephen Colbert as the moderator of the event. In a televised statement on December 14, 2011, Stephen Colbert, of television’s The Colbert Report, revealed that a “giant ego-shaped hole” was left in the Republican primaries since Donald Trump pulled out of moderating a GOP debate.

Chief Executive Officer of National Geographic Channels US, David Lyle, stated, “If Colbert wants animals in the buff, we’ll get them.  If he wants kids in the audience, we’ll start before bedtime.  Bring on the candidates for the greatest battle in the history of the universe.  It will be red in tooth and claw.”

As a winner of a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Animal Show, Cesar Millan plans to head to the Iowa Caucus on January 3, 2012, before the season premiere of Dog Whisperer on January 7. His goal is to address problem candidate behaviors he feels he can start rehabbing. “Pooches are easy, people are hard, and political candidates … that’s a whole different animal,” Millan boasted.

Candidates have been invited to attend and National Geographic representatives have begun the recruitment process of finding animal-loving participants from around the United States to attend, since Colbert wants kids involved. Millan quipped, “PAC(k) leaders unite! The candidates need someone to moderate with “Tsssst!” power.  This is going to be WILD.”

Other celebrities on board the project include Casey Anderson of Nat Geo’s America the Wild and reptile expert Brady Barr of Dangerous Encounters.
