NEW YORK (May 22, 2015)Dog sports are on the rise and the 2015 Greater New York Pet Expo is showing their love for this trend by giving pet lovers the opportunity to see and participate in Lure Coursing at the 2015 Greater New York Pet Expo on Saturday, May 30 at the Nassau Coliseum from 10am until 6pm.

Lure Chasing, also known as Lure Coursing, is a fast-paced, fun chase sport. Dogs run after a “bunny” lure (usually a white plastic bag) that is attached to a line that is controlled by a machine and a lure operator. The machine runs the line at the speed determined by the lure operator (and the dogs) and the dogs chase the lure.

“There are lots of activities and dog sports out there and it’s no secret that dogs often have a little too much energy,” says Meghan Wolfgram of Swift Paws. “Lure chasing is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to tire your pup out both mentally and physically.”

Along with being able to watch a few demonstrations of the sport, pet parents will be invited to allow their pups to try out the course for themselves for a small fee, so that they have the opportunity to decide if their pets could benefit from the exercise and excitement of Lure Chasing.

“Lure Coursing is always a fun and entertaining addition to the Expos,” says Ethan Barnett, Vice President of Community Partnerships for Amazing Pet Expos. “No matter the dog sport, we’re always happy to watch the pets of our attendees having fun and showing us how to embrace new things. Lure coursing is a great way to exercise your pet no matter their age, breed or disability.”

The New York Pet Expo will also feature meet-and-greet opportunities with Wayde King, Brett Raymer and Irwin Raymer of “TANKED” fame, and an agility course, a dog sport in which a handler directs their dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Along with the dog sports, there will be more than 100 exhibitors, live entertainment and demonstrations, and a mega-adoption area with more than 200 rescue pets available for adoption. Low-cost immunizations, discounted microchipping, and free nail trims will also be available for all the furry friends who need them.

This indoor and air-conditioned event is expected to attract more than 10,000 attendees along with their furry, feathered and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a new and one-of-a-kind experience where all pets can enjoy a fun day out with their pet parent(s). All well-behaved pets are welcome, as long as they’re on a fixed lead (or in a carrier) and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines.
