Bideawee Honors Veterans with Launch of New Veterans Pet Project
New York, New York, November 8, 2017 – In honor of this year’s Veterans Day, Bideawee, a leading animal welfare and pet adoption organization serving metropolitan New York and Long Island, is pleased to announce the launch of their new Veterans Pet Project. This past year they’ve been raising donations from the community to offer free pet adoptions to military veterans, as well as discounts at Bideawee’s Animal Hospitals in Manhattan and Westhampton, Pet Memorial Parks in Wantagh and Westhampton and other pet services.
The Veterans Pet Project donation campaign was led by Bideawee’s Chief Operating Officer and VP Finance and Administration, Ray Cushmore. Mr. Cushmore kicked off the fundraiser by running in the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. on October 22, 2017. He started a fundraising page and raised $2,000. Bideawee will continue raising more funds to support the program.
“We all know the happiness pets bring to people, but companion animals can be especially important to military veterans,” said Mr. Cushmore. “Pets provide unwavering love and loyalty, and may even help veterans feel more comfortable and protected in social settings. Not only will the Veterans Pet Project help military veterans, but it will also be helping adoptable pets get into loving homes.”
Mr. Cushmore and VP of Development, Jennifer Goodwin, have been meeting with other charitable organizations, such as the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Team Red, White & Blue and The Mission Continues to see how they can work together to help veterans re-engage in their communities after their military service.
Bideawee will also be honoring veterans with a special Veterans Day adoption event on Saturday, November 11. This will be the second annual Veterans Day Adoption event held at Kerrigan Realty on Main Street in Westhampton Beach. Bideawee’s mobile adoption van will be parked outside Kerrigan Realty with adoptable dogs and cats of all ages and sizes. The adoption fee will be waived for any military veterans, but they will need to show a military ID or service records.
Bideawee, which means “stay awhile,” in Scottish, is one of the country’s oldest and most respected animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. Founded in 1903, Bideawee’s mission is to be Greater New York’s leader in rescuing, caring for, and placing homeless cats and dogs with people who love them.
